Le conditionnel (présent)

Comme en français, on est ici dans l'irréel puisque le conditionnel indique le plus souvent une action qui se produirait si une condition était remplie. Le locuteur imagine un futur possible à certaines conditions.

• - I would go to the cinema twice a week if I had the time. What about you ?

• - I wouldn't. I think I would stay at home and watch videos.

• If they found the treasure, the divers would become rich.

• He wouldn't cough so much if he stopped smoking.

Le conditionnel sert également à formuler un souhait de manière polie.

• I would like to go for a walk.

• She would like us to come back early.

• He'd like to apply for the job.

• Oh yes, I'd love it !
